I function with very visual people,garden sheds, each in my garden style workplace and having a bunch of incredibly keen students that are generally looking for suggestions for their projects. For me I've constantly got more inspiration from outside of gardens and garden style than I've from within it. I'm writing this just just after possessing a lunch with Joe Swift and, I'm not sure he knows this, but he talks in style elements that borrow from a very wide field of design and art and speaks each in horticultural terms (his roots) and a much wider aesthetic that calls on a much wider experience than just gardens. Sitting in the National Gallery you can't help but be influenced but we both look beyond the obvious like galleries. I'm generally getting tips from retail and fashion in particular. Some of, in my opinion, best planting schemes are influenced by dress and some of my best structural style by retail architecture. Beyond you'll find written concepts about access, landscape, healing and material amongst other fields that give depth to what I design.
Of course, we're all different. Ultimately it comes down to character and outlook on life rather than being able to field existing or new concepts. Some are great at creativity and coming up using a new take on an old idea or producing something that stuns an audience. Others are great at filtering what's great from all those new suggestions and applying them to a new audience. As in life we need them each types of men and women about us to become successful and inspirational.
