Pauly D Reflects On 'Jersey Shore' Finale
'This season, we kind of appreciated Jersey more,' he tells MTV News of season five.

In a sea of laughs (courtesy of Vinny trying to hook up with two lesbians) and drama (including the Situation gossiping about Deena's sister's bedtime activities with his brother) on the "Jersey Shore" season finale, perhaps the biggest drama of all was caused by a prank pulled by Pauly D and Vinny.
After the crew returned from a camping trip, they found that their pals had pulled the ultimate practical joke, putting all their belongings and the house's furnishings outside. While almost everyone laughed it off, their pal the Situation didn't find it as amusing, complaining ad nauseam about the joke. "The finale's crazy because we go all out with the pranks," Pauly told MTV News about the season ender. "So me and Vinny, we're like prank-war champions. The whole house [suffers]. They appreciate it, but they get mad."
It capped off a season that was full of fun, drunken nights, as well as some real emotion, especially when Vinny left the house for a minute to deal with his anxiety issues. In the end, Pauly recalled all the laughs he shared with his roomies.
"Well, this season, we kind of appreciated Jersey more," he said. "So we took advantage of it and everything it has to offer. We were in Italy for so long [last season] that we never were away from the country for that amount of time, so you realize how much you miss gym, tan, laundry. There was no tanning beds in Italy.
"Something that surprised me? When Vinny left," he added about his buddy's short break from the house. "I never thought he would ever leave me. So he left me, but good thing we brought him back."
With season five over, it's not clear if the show will come back for a sixth season. If it does happen, Pauly D is down to hit Seaside again. "Absolutely! I'm there! I love summers on the Jersey Shore," he said. "I love it as a show, and I love it with my roommates. I wouldn't do it without [them]. I gotta do it with them. I want all of them, and I want the Jersey Shore."
Until then, fans can get their DJ Pauly D fix with his spin-off, "The Pauly D Project," kicking off on March 29, the same day as the premiere of "Punk'd." And of course, the "Shore" spin-off featuring mom-to-be Snooki and JWoww is currently in production.
Don't miss "Jersey Shore" every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. For continuing "Shore" coverage, be sure to check in with MTV's Remote Control blog.

Kim Kardashian 'Jam' Was 'Goofing Off,' The-Dream Says
Of 'Jam (Turn It Up),' producer tells MTV News' 'RapFix Live,' 'It wasn't about kicking off a singing career.'

Music producer, songwriter and singer The-Dream recently stopped by "RapFix Live" to discuss his latest projects and his experiences working with some of the industry's most-talented divas. While running down his list of collaborations, Mr. Terius Nash revealed that it was he who reached out to reality star Kim Kardashian last year to create the single "Jam (Turn It Up)."
It seems like the Kardashians have their stamp on everything these days — from diet pills to primetime guest spots on sitcoms, to their own clothing line — so it wasn't a stretch to assume that mom, Kris Jenner, would push her children into another project that could potentially amass millions for the Kardashian trademark. But, The-Dream tells us otherwise.
"I'm the one that actually called her to do it," the producer revealed during his interview with Sway Calloway.
"This was very, very — believe it or not — a very fun moment for me. It's one of my lightest musical moments. ... It wasn't about kicking off a singing career; it was us really having the power of TV and goofing off."
Knowing that the Kardashians weren't planning to monopolize every form of entertainment is a bit of a relief. And as for the The-Dream, his career hasn't hit any roadblocks since he and Kim K fooled around in the studio. He's co-produced and written tracks like Rihanna's "Birthday Cake," and he is currently in the midst of headlining his Kill the Lights Tour, which touched down Sunday and Monday in New York.

'Walking Dead' Cast Reflects On 'Shakespearean' Death
'Once you get to this level of expansion, you have to pop,' Norman Reedus tells MTV News about Jon Bernthal's villain, Shane Walsh.
By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Kara Warner

The death of Shane Walsh on "The Walking Dead" wasn't exactly shocking to comic-book readers, though the manner of the divisive character's exit was certainly a surprise: In the source material, Shane is shot and killed by Carl, whereas on the TV show, the disgruntled ex-cop was stabbed in the heart by his old friend Rick — a change the "Walking Dead" cast has described as nothing short of Shakespearean.
"There was so much of the love triangle [between Shane, Rick and Lori] that happened, and that had to go somewhere," actor Norman Reedus told MTV News. "It's almost sort of Shakespearean in a way.
"[Actor Jon Bernthal] did such a good job with that character and taking it some place," Reedus continued. "And I think once you get to this level of expansion, you have to pop. ... That's what it felt like to me."
Reedus' co-stars Steven Yeun and Melissa McBride agreed with his assessment. For them, it was the actual night of shooting Shane's death that sticks with them the most.
"Seeing the work that Jon and [Andrew Lincoln] and everybody put towards that story line, it's awesome," Yeun shared. "I remember we gathered to watch that final scene, and it was like, they did it like 50 times, and each time you were just like, 'Holy F...' You know? It's so good."
McBride agreed: "It was so unsettling to see them when we were watching the scene being filmed. It was unsettling to see the two of them in that arrangement there. After all they'd been through, and as close as they'd been, it was very strange."
Strange, but monumental. To date, "Walking Dead" has been largely about Rick and Shane's story. To lose one of those characters as early as season two definitely marks a major shift for the series.
"They started the show together, like best buddies right off the bat," Reedus said. "And to see that pop at the end was, yeah, it was a big deal."

SXSW 2012: Why Austin's Film Fest Tops All Others
South by Southwest was created for 'real movie fans,' documentarian Morgan Spurlock tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

There's something inherently cool about Austin's annual South by Southwest film festival. For starters, it has a fun acronym and a decidedly casual vibe, but what sets SXSW apart from the other big film fests is that it caters to actual film fans. And there's something for everyone, from a few mainstream studio-made crowd-pleasers to the genre-tastic Midnighters series to eclectic documentaries and shorts.
"What I love about the film festival is it's real movie fans," documentarian Morgan Spurlock, a frequent attendee of SXSW (and the man behind "Super Size Me"), recently told MTV News. "It's not filled with people from Los Angeles, not people from business side of things, it's real local people who love movies. You get a real gauge how an audience will respond to your film at SXSW, which I really like."
"Big Easy Express" director Emmett Malloy revealed that the festival's unique and fan-friendly vibe is a big part of the reason they wanted to premiere the film in Austin, along with the fact that they are being treated as equals with all the other big films instead of being pushed to the side in a "music doc" category.
"When we were looking at places to premiere, there were a lot of film festivals brought up, but SXSW felt perfect," Malloy said. "If we went to another fest, music docs are treated more as a niche." "Big Easy" features folk-music-friendly bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show as they traveled from Oakland, California, to New Orleans on an eight-day railroad tour/ musical adventure in the summer of 2011. "At SXSW, it was a place where the layers of our film work perfectly for it and the bands were excited to come. It stacked the deck because we knew they would be excited to have us as well."
Spurlock will be on hand for the screening of his "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" and as part of the panel "Changing the Channel: The New Golden Age of TV," where he will discuss the upcoming second season of his Hulu series "A Day in the Life."
Spurlock explained SXSW is the perfect launching pad for his show's second season, which features an actual day in the life of people like MMA fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Joel McHale and Questlove, due to the fest's marriage of interactive and entertainment elements, coupled with the fact that online commerce continues to be a hot topic of conversation these days.
"SXSW is one of those places where great things come to fruition. It's special," Spurlock said. "The biggest thing: I want people to know the lay of the land. I want people to know what goes into production of the show, and I want people to know what opportunities exist in this online world, to know there are places to go to produce original content."
"I'm just excited for anyone to see the film right now," Malloy said of what he's looking forward to most while in Austin. "It's about a fun trip, and I wanted people to experience it in a genuine fashion," he continued, adding that the spirit of "Big Easy" is similar to that of SXSW itself. "It's simple. Great music and great energy."

Avengers' Hulk: Hardest Character To Adapt To Film?
In 'Talk Nerdy,' experts agree with Joss Whedon's claim that Hulk is the most difficult Avenger to get right.
By Josh Wigler
The Hulk in "Marvel's The Avengers"

Bruce Banner has a tendency to get angry. And despite what he says, you really should like him when he gets angry — because if you don't, well, you're going to have a lot of problems with "The Avengers."
Joss Whedon, the man bringing Earth's Mightiest Heroes to the big screen, confessed in a recent interview that Banner's irritable alter ego, the Hulk, is easily the most challenging Avenger to get right. He might not be wrong, considering that it's taken three different actors to play the big green meanie on the big screen — Eric Bana in 2003's "Hulk," Ed Norton in 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" and, soon, Mark Ruffalo in "The Avengers." And Whedon's assertion certainly has the support of some of the Web's top comic book and movie commentators.
"Without a doubt, I think Hulk is the hardest 'Avengers' character to translate to the big screen," MTV Geek's Valerie Gallaher told MTV News about her "Avengers" character concerns. "Using CGI to create a character in a live-action film will end up looking like one big cartoon if not done right."
"Both Joss Whedon and Mark Ruffalo have a lot of pressure to give Bruce Banner and the Hulk two distinctive yet relatable characters," agreed Steve Sunu of Comic Book Resources. "Only time will tell if 'The Avengers' is an improvement for Hulk over 'The Incredible Hulk.' "
Of course, just because a challenge exists doesn't mean it's insurmountable. NextMovie's Kevin Polowy, who also agrees that Hulk presents Whedon's biggest challenge, has faith in the director's ability to do the Jade Giant justice. "I do have faith that if anyone can get it done, it's Joss Whedon," he said. "But compared to proven screen figures like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, Hulk is far and away the trickiest pony in the bunch."
Not everyone is so concerned about Hulk. Caleb Goellner with Comics Alliance doesn't see the incredible menace as the most problematic character in "The Avengers"; like me, he assigns that role to the not-super-deadly duo of Black Widow and Hawkeye.
"They're going to be the hardest to portray," he said. "Black Widow got some exposure in 'Iron Man 2' and Hawkeye was teased in 'Thor,' but the 'master assassins' are at a disadvantage compared to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk. Their backstories will require considerable streamlining for them to make sense in this Marvel movieverse, so it will be interesting to see how much Joss Whedon and company will be able to fit in to an already packed movie.
"I suggest making them husband and wife, because that would be the cutest damn thing," Goellner added. Totally agreed, Caleb.
